Mexico’s most celebrated luchador, Santo finds himself
tasked with protecting the family of Dr. Luis Cristaldi (Jorge Mondragón). Dr.
Cristaldi’s ancestor was a wizard who put Dracula (Aldo Monti) and his loyal
servant Rufus the Wolfman (Agustín Martínez Solares) in the grave via a magical
knife. A creepy guy named Eric (Wally Barron), has kidnapped Dr. Cristaldi and
used his blood to resurrect the pair of monsters. Dracula and Rufus waste no
time in creating an army of vampires and werewolves to finish off the Cristaldi
family. Santo calls in his pal Blue Demon to help fight them off.
When Santo and Blue Demon aren’t playing chess or showing
off their impressive sweater collections, they are kicking werewolves in the
head and throwing javelins through vampires. Although the film opens and closes
with some non-plot related wrestling that goes on way to long, the story in
between is enjoyable schlock. I liked the fact that it was Rufus the wolf-man
and not Dracula, who is tasked with seducing one of the Cristaldi daughters. Eric
steals the movie with a truly creepy performance and an astounding demise. There
is something oddly amusing about watching gruesome bloodletting with a light
jazz soundtrack. It takes Santo and Blue Demon a little too long to figure out
what’s going on, but once the fighting starts, its exciting silly stuff.
