Tina (Lar Park-Lincoln) is a young girl whose budding psychic powers
result in the death of her alcoholic father at their house near Crystal Lake.
Several years of therapy later, Tina is brought back to the house by her
doctor, Crews (Terry Kiser), nominally to help her deal with her issues but in actuality
he hopes to profit from her strange abilities. In pushing her harder and
harder, he forces Tina to accidentally free Jason from the bottom of the lake
where he has been trapped for a long time. Jason immediately starts doing what
he does best, at least until he runs up against Tina.
I give The New Blood an ‘A’ for effort. Here was an attempt at do something wholly new in the Friday
the 13th universe that didn’t: A) lose Jason Vorhees in the process,
or B) undermine the horror of the series with overt comedy. The New Blood gets a resounding ‘D+’ in execution, with a cheap
looking production, mostly uninteresting characters, and for holding
back on the Tina vs. Jason fight until the last few moments of the movie. Even
then the battle is short and wastes all the potential of finally seeing someone
who could stand-up to the unstoppable force Jason has become. The New Blood suffers even worse from
censorship with virtually every violent scene removed. This film had the
potential to be something really interesting and it feels even worse to watch
it not realize it at all.
